Today’s world causes each of us as Christians to pause and reflect on life, our future and our children’s and grandchildren’s futures. This week we heard about the terrible murder of a Law Enforcement Officer in Jersey City, NJ. This relatively young officer (34) was married and the father of five young children. Their lives are shattered by pure evil and will never be the same. I do not know the spiritual state of this fine officer, but it is my hope that he knew the Lord!
In 1 Peter 1: 3-4, we are reminded of the blessed assurance we have in being in Christ. “According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled and unfading, kept in heaven for you”. It is my earnest desire that this fine officer’s family may have the peace and hope of their husband and Father’s eternal blessing. There could not be a more reassuring blessing than to know that someone such as this officer had heard the good news of Christ and was a believer! What assurance this would be to this broken family. We each must always ask ourselves, did we make a friend or neighbor aware of our risen savior’s plan for each of us that hear and come to a knowledge and desire to be born again? Just as this officer and his family, we too never know the fate that faces each of us daily, and that of our friends, relatives and neighbors.
